Frequently Asked Questions

Below are a number of tips to help you get ready for your session and get the best possible result from your professional photos. I’ve also included a number of answers to frequently asked questions. As always, please contact me if you have questions about anything not covered here!

Planning Your Session

+
You should try to stay away from stripes, patterns, or polka dots. It's hard to go wrong with solid colors. This helps to keep the focus on you, rather than what you're wearing.

If you want, you can bring a few accesories such as hats or jackets. This can change your look without the hassle of a wardrobe change.
+
It's best to get a haircut a week or two away from your session. That way, you look sharp, but don't have the "just cut" style. Wear your hair in a style which fits your personality.

For makeup, this really depends on personal preference. Something which is subtle and accentuates your natural beauty will almost always work. There are times where a more dramatic look will work also.
+
This is completely up to you! Photos normally come out best when the location is special to you. If you have no preference, I have a few places in mind which will work.
+
Yes! Just make sure they're there to support you, not distract you.

Other Questions

Fill out the request a session form at the bottom of the relevant portrait page. I require a non-refundbale deposit which is equal to 25% of the package fee. The remainder is due at the beginning of the session.
+
The first 20 miles round trip is included with your session. Additional travel is calculated based on the standard mileage rate published by the IRS each year and will be quoted prior to booking.

Depending on the package you select, you may have digital downloads. With these, you get full rights to print the photos wherever you'd like.

All copyrights, commercial printing rights, distribution rights, and other rights will be retained solely by Alec Salisbury Photo & Video.

As for the other edited photographs in your gallery, this print release will not apply. You will only be able to order prints of those photographs through your gallery. You do, however, have the option to purchase digital download versions of any or all the photographs in your gallery.
+
You can expect to receive a link and password to your proofing gallery about a week after your session (if not sooner!). The proofing gallery will typically contain your best photographs (this number varies depending on the package). From there, you will be able to order images, which I will fully edit and color after you've placed your order.
+
Yes! Just let me know which additional photos you want. The pricing can be found on the session information page on this website.

So long as you provide sufficient notice at least 3 days in advance and you are not rescheduling due to weather (see below), then I will make every effort to accommodate your change.

However, please understand that once you’ve been penciled in, that’s a designated time where I haven’t scheduled other clients. It may be difficult for me to fill that time slot with another session without sufficient notice. I therefore ask that you make every effort to stick to your original session date and time.

Believe it or not, a bright sunny day is often not the best shooting weather. You’ll be squinting, and you’ll get completely washed out by the sun. Cloudy or overcast (or even slightly rainy) days make for beautiful photographs.

Because of this, I’m the only one who will make the decision to reschedule due to weather. I'm a weather enthusiast and keep a close eye on the forecast.

I’ve tested and compared several of the nation’s top professional printing labs. The lab that I’ve chosen to work with offers only the highest quality prints. All printers are not created equal, unfortunately. It can be difficult for lower-quality printers to accurately replicate the colors you see on a computer screen.

I’ve calibrated my equipment to match the labs I work with. This means the color, exposure, and sharpness of the prints you order through me will closely match the photographs themselves.

Once your photos have been edited and your online gallery has been established, you will be given a link and a password. You may provide this to anyone with whom you would like to share your photos. Via the gallery, family and friends will be able to order prints, photo books, and other items.
+
I can guarentee your ordering gallery will remain online for 3 months. If your gallery expires and you need additional time, it can be made available again.
